Intimate and Micro-weddings
A wedding is about the love and commitment that two people share. For many people, a smaller wedding is the perfect way to celebrate that.
Intimate weddings and “micro-weddings” have become increasingly popular over the last few years and have many advantages over traditional, larger weddings. An intimate wedding is any wedding with 50 or fewer participants.
The Benefits of Smaller Weddings
Firstly, with fewer people to accommodate, you can focus on the elements that truly mean the most to you as a couple, rather than trying to please a variety of people or do things a certain way just because you think you “should”. (Fewer people equals fewer expectations, and at the end of the day, you are freer to just be yourselves.)
Likewise, you may also be able to incorporate unique and special aspects that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to, and spend more time actually being WITH each other on your wedding day than if you were tied to a more traditional format. My own wedding was of the more traditional sort, and due to time and other constraints, I felt like the day just whizzed by. I barely got to see my husband that day, and when I did, it wasn’t really “quality time”, since so much else was going on around us.
Also, with smaller space requirements for your ceremony and/or reception, fewer mouths to feed, and the like, you have a lot more flexibility when it comes to venue choice, and can allocate funds toward the aspects of your wedding that may make more of a long-term difference in your lives, marriage, and overall wedding experience.
For example, if there are aspects of your wedding celebration that you particularly value (such as having it at a particular location, your wedding attire, décor, photography, or anything else), you can invest in the quality you actually WANT to have instead of having to stretch your budget across conflicting priorities, settling for less, and potentially being disappointed in the outcome. In addition to your wedding day itself, you may also be able to invest more toward your honeymoon, your shared home, and/or other plans for the future.
Smaller, more intimate weddings can honestly be among the most beautiful, and I almost wish I could have a “do-over” so that I could have one myself! (Maybe that is something to consider for the vow renewal I already want to have - what do you say, hubs?) ;)
