I've said it before, and I'll say it again – digital photos aren't enough on their own, and if you don't print and display your photos, you are truly missing out on one of the best things you can do for yourself, your family, and other loved ones.
Sure, there is a time and a place for digital photos, and having them as a backup or "digital negative" is not a bad idea (in fact, I include them with my wedding and other couples’ sessions and as a bonus with many of my print products for just this reason) – but if you have them just to have them and leave them sitting on your hard drive without ever looking at them again, or post them on social media without doing anything more with them, it's a missed opportunity that will lead to countless other missed opportunities, over the course of a lifetime and beyond.
That may sound dramatic, but it’s true when you break it down and think about it. That's because when you actually print out your photos and display them in your home, or preserve them in a physical album, they are not only reminders of a fun or important event or milestone, but they also serve as daily reminders of the love and connectedness you share with the people who mean the most to you.
These reminders reinforce that love again and again, day after day, along with the idea that you each BELONG, and that each one of you is an essential, valued, cherished, and irreplaceable person in one another's life. I don’t know about you, but in this crazy world, I think we could all do well to be reminded of that everyday.
Time spent gathered around cherished family photo albums is quality time you will never regret, and these heirlooms that tell the unique story of your family will be passed down from generation to generation – whereas, let’s face it – the photos shared on social media will likely be inaccessible and long forgotten by then.
Photos displayed on your wall also create a warm and inviting space for both your family and anyone who comes to visit. They say to anyone who enters, with pride and confidence, “THERE IS LOVE IN THIS HOME!” – and when people feel the love resonating in your space, they will naturally want to be a part of it. You are literally creating an environment where people will want to be, setting the stage for a happy home life and future gatherings with family and friends, where you can continue to create lasting memories together.
Printed photos can also serve to anchor you when life gets rough, reminding you of your "why" in times of trouble and providing perspective on what's most important if you ever lose your way. The ties that bind us are what hold the world together and what hold us together as individuals. Whether it’s a photo on your wall or in your wallet, these reminders can make all the difference in our lives when we need it the most.
Yet, in our daily rush, and in settling for “just the digitals”, we are at risk of losing out on all of these things. Maybe we think we’ll get around to printing the photos ourselves, and we may have every intention of doing so when the photos are fresh – but the reality is that many of us just don’t. I know that that’s true because – to be completely real with you – I’m guilty of it myself when it comes to my own family photos. (I regret to admit that, but it’s true!)
Despite that, I’d love nothing more than to get your photos on display in your home where you can enjoy them fully and often. Heck, even if I wasn’t your original photographer, I’d love to help you do more with your photos, because it’s just that important. In either case, I’ll help you select the right photos for display and guide you on how best to showcase them in your space, according to your needs, budget, and personal style.
So reach out and let me know – when’s the last time you made family photos a priority? Do you need help making the most of photos you already have? How can I help you get your memories off of your screen and into your life? I’d love to hear from you!
